The most important part of text marketing when starting out is building your audience. Your audience consists of anyone who opts into your program. The most common ways of building your audience is to either have a kiosk, a TEXT2JOIN campaign, or both. TEXT2JOIN campaigns are not as successful as kiosk campaigns because you are requiring your customer to take out their phone and send a keyword to a short code in order to join. Most customers do not want to do that and, therefore, your campaign will suffer if this is the only method you are relying on.
We use a kiosk with a liability waiver meshed into it and see amazing results with our program. An overwhelming majority of people opt in on our kiosks and it is not common to see a high number of opt outs. We also allow you to have an option for TEXT2JOIN as well if you want to promote your text marketing program on social media, website, or in-store signs.
Once you have built your list, then it is time to set a messaging budget of how many sales per month you want to run and get a plan together. This is where we can get creative and make it work no matter what your unique business needs are. If you have a list of 10,000 people and want to run 2 sales per month, then you will need to consider if 20,000 or 25,000 messages/month fits your needs. Target lists are a tremendous asset in text marketing and if you have a large database of subscribers, then you should use target lists to be efficient. This becomes more important the longer you have a text marketing system in place. The people who joined 1+ year ago and have not been in since are not as important as the people who were at your business yesterday. The people who have not been back have been texted a few times since with sales and did not come back in. For whatever reason, they dropped off and you do not want to continue wasting money sending texts to them. With Target Lists, we can target “Only Customers Who Have Checked In Within 3, 6, 9, 12 months”. We can also target “Only Customers Who Have Checked In More Than 3, 4, or 5 Times”. There are so many possibilities with target lists to make sure every broadcast text message is sent to someone who is likely to act.
If you are using a TEXT2JOIN text marketing company with no check-in process, then you cannot do target lists because there are no check-ins once the customer initially joins via text. The participation of these programs is low to begin with compared to check-in kiosks. On top of that, you cannot target your messages which makes check-in kiosks a much better option for text marketing.
