Solving Self-Service Problems With Just In Notifications – Part 8: Troubleshooting Just In Texts

Solving Self-Service Problems With Just In Notifications - Part 8: Troubleshooting Just In Texts

BY PARKER MITCHELL

Before starting with our Just In system, we want to make sure everything is setup correctly and the Just In texts are going out accurately every time.  We are coordinating a few different systems together to make Just In texts work with ease; how each yard uploads their inventory, the YMS schedules, and any additional parties such as the URG who may be involved in the transmission of data (Powerlink/Pinnacle yards).  Here are a couple of issues which may arise with getting Just In texts to work seamlessly and how to solve them.

#1: Timing Issue with Data Transmission

We send our Just In texts out at 11am ET every day for new vehicles which were made available to the public starting yesterday.  In order for a text to be sent out, then your inventory feed must show that the vehicle was moved out of holding and into a row location the day before.  We do not have timing issues with Crush yards because all inventory files are sent at the same time every night and updated at the same time.

However, we sometimes have timing issues with the URG feeds because there is no set cutoff time to upload the feeds to URG.  Therefore, if the feed is not updated with cars moved out of holding and into a row location by 11am ET, then texts will not go out for those vehicles.

#2: Adding Cars To HOLDING Location First

When customers add cars to the holding location first, then they are assigned an arrival date of when the car was placed into holding.  However, we do not send texts out for cars with a location of “HOLDING” because they are not available to the public yet.  Then, when the car is set and available, then the location is updated to the row the vehicle is on.  The problem this creates is that the arrival date is usually a few days before and Just In is looking for vehicles which arrived yesterday with a row location other than holding.  Therefore, if your yard adds cars to HOLDING first, then you need to make sure and let us know so we can add a code fix.  We have solved this issue in the past and can do it for your yard too.
